Email accounts aren’t transferring when migrating from Plesk to cPanel via Transfer Tool

Email accounts aren’t transferring when migrating from Plesk on Linux to cPanel via Transfer Tool

Symptoms

After using the WHM Transfer Tool to migrate from Plesk on Linux, the email accounts and mailboxes did not transfer.

Description

WHM Transfer Tool expects the default mailbox configuration to be in use on Plesk when transferring to cPanel. However, Plesk does have a way to customize the default mailbox location. When the email directories are customized, it can cause this issue to occur. This issue will result in email accounts, passwords, and the mailboxes not being transferred to cPanel.

Workaround

Creating a bind-mount for the path cPanel expects to exist will resolve this problem. The bind mount will mirror the email directories to another location.

Note: Bind-mounts don’t use any additional disk space or cause any issues with the existing data.

For example, if the admin on Plesk moved mailboxes from “/var/qmail/mailboxes” to “/home/mail” the below bind mount would allow the mailboxes to transfer normally.

mkdir /home/mail/mailnames
mount -o bind /home/mail /home/mail/mailnames

After the transfers are complete, feel free to unmount the bind mount on the Plesk server.

umount /home/mail/mailnames
